RLPA Launch Second Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan
The RLPA recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Owners of the land of Australia and we pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people past, present and emerging.
The Rugby League Players Association is pleased to announce the organisation’s second Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
Throughout the period of the RLPA’s first Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), the players’ association learned the power of fostering meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
The RLPA’s second Innovate RAP further embeds the players’ association’s vision for reconciliation, which is an inclusive, educated, and respectful community in which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians are united and empowered through the shared experience rugby league provides.
The RLPA’s second Innovate RAP was launched on Garigal land with Wiradjuri and Biripi woman Shaylee Bent and RLPA CEO Clint Newton in attendance alongside other members of the RLPA team.
The launch was catered by Sydney Aboriginal Café and the attendees visited Aboriginal rock art locations within Lane Cove National Park.
“When we established our first ever RAP we knew it was crucial to confirm our commitment to help create a true reconciled Australia,” said Clint Newton.
“This second RAP continues our work in this area to create equal opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players which will ensure we contribute to a united and inclusive community.
“The RLPA has been on this journey for a number of years now and it’s one we are to committed to continuing on.”
The RLPA’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan includes an ‘Opportunities’ deliverable of an internship program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players within the RLPA’s operations. This internship is currently being undertaken by Penrith Panthers utility and Wiradjuri man Tyrone Peachey.
The RLPA’s second Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan has 18 actions with multiple deliverables in each under the core four RAP categories of Relationships, Respect, Opportunities and Governance.
The RLPA’s Innovate RAP document was produced by Butchulla woman Amity Raymont of Elliott St Typesetting and Design, and the designs created by Bundjalung Yugambeh designer Christine Slabb.
