Dane Gagai will join the prestigious 300-game club when his Newcastle Knights team take on the Parramatta Eels this week.
The Rugby League Players Association congratulates Dane on becoming the 54th player to play 300 games over an established and successful career across the Brisbane Broncos, South Sydney Rabbitohs and Knights.
Dane made his NRL debut playing for the Broncos in 2011 and over his 15 seasons in the top grade has also proudly represented the Indigenous All Stars, Māori All Stars, Australian Kangaroos, and Queensland Maroons.
The RLPA wishes Dane all the best for his 300th game and for the rest of his career as he continues to be one of the most respected players in the game.
“On behalf of the RLPA I would like to congratulate Gags on reaching 300 games,” said the RLPA’s Jamie Buhrer, a former teammate of Dane’s at the Newcastle Knights.
“Dane has been the ultimate competitor for a long time now and certainly always brought his best on the State of Origin stage.
“I had the pleasure of seeing first hand the high quality teammate Gags is on the field, but also off it as well. As his mate JB, I just want to wish Dane all the very best in reaching that important and special 300-game milestone.”
Clint Newton, CEO of the RLPA and another former teammate of Dane’s at the Knights, also offered his congratulations.
“Dane is an incredible player who quickly entrenched himself in the NRL as one of the most competitive and admired outside backs. Reliable and ruthless are two words that come to mind when I think of the way Dane plays our wonderful game.
“To play 300 games over 15 years at the elite level is such an enormous feat for an individual player, especially while balancing that with State of Origin and international commitments.
“The RLPA is immensely proud of Dane and, as a former teammate of his, I am personally so pleased to have called him a teammate and friend. It’s a special moment for the Gagai family, and I wish Gags and his family all the best this round for becoming the 54th player to play 300 games in the NRL.”
The RLPA recognises the dedication, resilience and leadership it takes to reach this rare milestone and celebrates Dane’s immense contribution to the game and the players’ community.
