The Maroons have reclaimed the Holden State of Origin shield with a record-breaking 52-6 victory over New South Wales in the third and deciding game played last night in Brisbane.
The 46-point win is a record margin and it’s only the second time in Origin history that a team has scored more than 50 points.
Queensland scored a total of eight converted tries and two penalty goals and ran in six of those tries before Michael Jennings sprinted clear to put one on the board for the Blues.
A record 52,500 fans, most supporting the home team, packed Suncorp Stadium and the chant of ‘Queenslander’ added momentum to an inspired Maroons outfit.
It was a night for player records as well with Cameron Smith, playing in his 36th game, equalling the record for the most Origin appearances. State of Origin all time leading scorer Johnathan Thurston booted nine from nine to surpass Mal Meninga’s record for the most goals kicked in a single Origin match.

It was also the final Origin for Justin Hodges who retires his Maroons jersey after 24 games and his final contribution was to score his team’s final points of the game by kicking the conversion of Queensland’s eighth try.
Queensland’s Corey Parker was awarded the Wally Lewis Medal for Player of Series and his team mate Johnathan Thurston was named Man of the Match.
Queensland enjoyed 61 percent of possession and completed 38 sets against 39 percent and 18 sets for the Blues. Penalties, errors and missed tackles also proved costly for the Blues camp
