Cody Walker wins May Player of the Month

The Rugby League Players’ Association is excited to announce Cody Walker as May’s Player of the Month, as voted by the players.

South Sydney Rabbitohs’ five-eighth Walker becomes the inaugural winner of the Player of the Month award. All NRL players are eligible to vote on four nominees, selected by a nomination panel of former players: Dene Halatau, James Graham, and Channel Nine’s Andrew Johns.

Walker was voted as the best player for May ahead of fellow nominees Dylan Brown, Payne Haas and Shaun Johnson. Announced as the winner on today’s Sunday Footy Show, broadcast on Channel Nine, Walker won the award for the eligible rounds of Round 10 to Round 13 of the NRL competition.

The Player of the Month is a new addition to The Players’ Champion suite of awards. The award tops off an incredible May for Walker, who had an impressive eight try assists, as well as a try to his name.

On his recognition as the players’ Player of the Month for May, Walker said:

“I’m really grateful to have been one of the first-ever nominees for the players’ Player of the Month and to be voted the winner for May is a huge honour. To be recognised by my peers in this way is very special.”

Clint Newton, RLPA of the CEO, praised Walker for his exceptional performances and his recognition as May’s Player of the Month:

“The RLPA congratulates Cody for his remarkable on-field contributions during May. His ability to create scoring opportunities for his teammates and execute precise plays has been instrumental in South Sydney’s success so far this season.

“Walker’s exceptional form has not gone unnoticed by his peers. The voting process highlights the respect and admiration players have for his talent.”

“We would also like to extend our gratitude to the nomination panel. Andrew, Dene, and James’s expertise and knowledge of the game played a crucial role in selecting the four nominees.”

Players will vote on three more Player of the Month awards (June, July, and August), as well as NRLW awards for July, August and September.
