The
Rugby League Players’ Association (RLPA) has joined the game in celebrating
Women in League Round this weekend – with the Association acknowledging the
significant role women play at all levels of the sport.
Chief
Executive Ian Prendergast today recognised the women who play an integral role
in the game – including those who form part of the administration staff at the
RLPA – Robyn Watson (GM of Strategic Partnerships), Lina Caccamo (Player
Operations Manager) and Sandra Rogers (Executive Officer).
“It’s important that we take the time to stop and reflect on the enormous contribution that women make to the sport of Rugby League,” Mr Prendergast said. “It’s something that we should not lose sight of each and every day – however it’s great to join the game in celebrating Women in League Round again this year.
“When
we talk about Women in League Round it’s such a significant footprint within
the modern game that we are celebrating – from our elite players, to
executives, administrators, officials, coaches, volunteers, fans, wives,
partners, sisters and so on.
“Our
team at the RLPA includes a number of passionate and inspiring women who work
hard behind the scenes in advancing the interests of our membership.
“Adding
to that, the RLPA elected its first-ever female Chair this year, Dr Deidre
Anderson, and welcomed Pippa Leary onto the Board of Directors.
“We
are also focused on continuing to increase the engagement we have with our
female members so that they are empowered in life and through Rugby League.
“It’s
great to be surrounded by so many inspiring women in our sport and I
want to take this opportunity to acknowledge their contribution in and around
the game of Rugby League.”
