Players launch auction site to support the Bushfire Appeal
Rugby League players have continued their support of the NRL Bushfire Appeal, with numerous memorabilia items donated in recent weeks to assist in raising funds for those affected by the devastating bushfires in Australia.
The Rugby League Players’ Association (RLPA) has collaborated with SE Products and the NRL over the past two weeks to create a centralised auction platform for player memorabilia – with the auction site now featuring a range of donations from NRL stars such as Daly Cherry-Evans, Clint Gutherson, Josh Jackson and Thomas Burgess.
The Bushfire Relief Auction is one of a range of initiatives being developed by players through the RLPA as part of the coordinated response with other stakeholders to the bushfire crisis.
The co-branded RLPA and NRL platform hosted on Official Memorabilia will continue to accept bids on the items over the next week, with all auctions to conclude at 8:00pm AEDT on Wednesday, January 22 and proceeds going directly towards the NRL Bushfire Appeal.
In addition to the SE Products platform, a number of players have contributed to the Appeal through their Clubs or individual auctions over the past fortnight.
All players who have donated to the cause through various means are commended as the Rugby League community continues to support those impacted.
RLPA Chief Executive, Ian Prendergast, said the auction site has provided players with a secure platform to donate their items in support of the NRL Bushfire Appeal.
“The entire Rugby League community has united behind the Bushfire Appeal and it has been great to see players so eager to help those in need,” Mr Prendergast said.
“I would like to thank SE Products for allowing us to use the Official Memorabilia platform, the NRL, Clubs and the players who have donated items for helping bring this central fundraising platform to life.
“There are some outstanding items live on the site which have been generously donated by players, so I encourage people to dig deep as all proceeds will go towards this incredibly important cause.
“We will continue to work with the game’s key stakeholders on a range of initiatives that will aim to provide meaningful support to the areas affected.
“I would also like to commend Clubs and players who have, or are currently, auctioning items through their own platforms – it’s fantastic that our game has been proactive about donating their items in response to this crisis.”
RLPA Board Member, Daly Cherry-Evans, said it has been great to see the collective unite behind such an important initiative.
“The bushfires have obviously had a devastating impact over the past few months and there are many players who want to help those affected,” Cherry-Evans said.
“It’s been so great to see all the items donated from Rugby League players and we hope that we can play a small part in raising much needed funds for this important cause.
“My thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted by this crisis, including those emergency staff and volunteers who have been on the front line responding to these tragic fires.”
The Official Memorabilia website is a secure platform and each item comes with a certificate of authenticity.
