Join our team: Legal Counsel
The Rugby League Players’ Association (RLPA) is seeking a highly skilled professional to fill the role of Legal Counsel.
The Legal Counsel will be responsible for all aspects of the RLPA’s legal operations. Working with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive, the Legal Counsel will manage all legal, risk, compliance and player-related matters.
The Legal Counsel will develop expertise across the contractual framework relating to players including the collective agreement, playing contracts, codes and policies, as well as the NRL Rules. The successful applicant will manage all player related matters, including contractual, disciplinary, and integrity matters.
The Legal Counsel will also have responsibility across a wide range of areas that relate to our members, including player-agent relationships, Licensing, Player Property and IP use, insurance and injury support, and health and safety.
The Legal Counsel will take on Company Secretary duties and will manage all legal matters for the RLPA and Board, including all constitutional and compliance matters.
Multiple stakeholder relationships will be critical in this role, most importantly with the playing membership, but also with the RLPA Board and advisors, external legal counsel, NRL, Clubs, States, and Accredited Agents. The Legal Counsel must have strong inter-personal skills to develop and enhance those relationships.
The Legal Counsel will need to have strong legal acumen, excellent verbal and written communications skills, a strong work ethic, as well as the ability to problem solve issues. He or she will be a strong advocate for employee/player rights and string alignment to the objects of the RLPA.
The Legal Counsel will have demonstrable experience and performance in the advocacy and representation of others.
With the RLPA about to embark upon collective negotiations later in the year, and with a range of matters that will fall under the responsibility of the Legal Counsel, this is an exciting opportunity to be involved in shaping the future for professional rugby league players and the RLPA. If you have a great work ethic, a passion for advocating for the rights of others, and like to work across a wide range of diverse issues, then we welcome you to apply for this unique role with the RLPA.
