Cobbo and McGregor voted Players’ Recruit of the Year winners

The Rugby League Players Association (RLPA) is pleased to announce Selwyn Cobbo and Raecene McGregor as the winners of the Players’ Recruit of the Year, as voted by players.

The Players’ Champion awards are presented by Select Cards.

Cobbo joined the Dolphins in 2026 from local rivals the Brisbane Broncos, where he played 15 games in 2025. Throughout the 2026 season, the winger has returned to his best form and produced consistently strong performances. Cobbo’s form earned him a recall to the State of Origin arena with the Queensland Maroons.

After missing out on selection in the Brisbane Broncos’ 2025 Premiership side, Cobbo is now a key player for his Dolphins side, who play the Sydney Roosters in the first Preliminary Final.

“On behalf of the RLPA, I congratulate Selwyn Cobbo on being voted the Players’ Recruit of the Year,” said Clint Newton, CEO of the RLPA.

“The professionalism Selwyn has shown through adversity in his career has been impressive. Many players face crossroads throughout their time in the NRL, and Selwyn has responded to those challenges by continuing to grow and become an even better player.

“His performances throughout the season showed exactly why he is one of the most damaging and hard-working wingers in the game, and this recognition from his peers is thoroughly deserved. It’s great to see him happy and playing such fantastic football.”

McGregor joined the Wests Tigers for the 2026 season after spending three seasons with the St George Illawarra Dragons. She starred throughout the season and was central to the Tigers’ first-ever NRLW finals appearance.

The 2022 Players’ Champion, McGregor has again been recognised by her peers following her immediate impact at a new club.

“Raecene McGregor’s influence in her first season with the Wests Tigers has been outstanding, and on behalf of the RLPA, I congratulate her on being voted the Players’ Recruit of the Year,” said Clint Newton.

“Throughout her career, Raecene has shown how incredibly adaptable, professional and resilient she is, returning to sensational form after major injuries. Having already won three NRLW premierships, she continues to show why she remains one of the competition’s dominant players and firmly in the prime of her career.

“In 2026, she moved to a new club, made an immediate difference and became a key player in guiding the Tigers to their first-ever NRLW Finals appearance. Congratulations to Raecene on this recognition from her peers.”
