The Rugby League Players’ Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Steve Harker to its Board of Directors.
RLPA Chair Dr Deidre Anderson and fellow directors formally welcomed Mr Harker at this evenings Board meeting.
Mr Harker is currently a Director of The Banking and Finance Oath (BFO), a Board member of the ASX Thomson Reuters Charity Foundation and The Hunger Project Australia.
Mr Harker was appointed Chairman of the Investment and Executive Committees at Future Now Capital in 2020 and Non-Executive Director, Westpac Group in 2019. Prior to that, he was Vice-Chairman of Morgan Stanley Australia from October 2016 to February 2019 and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Stanley Australia from 1998 to 2016.
Speaking about the appointment, Mr Harker said, “…Very honoured to be involved with the RLPA and putting back whatever we can into the players, the sport and their communities”.
Additionally, during the meeting, the Board formally endorsed the updated membership to the Player Advisory Groups and endorsed the continuation of efforts in the following areas:
– The support of NRLW players in progressing a range of matters, including payment for services performed, competition structures and collective terms and conditions.
– Continued rejection of the current proposal to increase player fines and sanctions, noting that it is a matter that ought to be dealt with through the collective negotiation process.
