Roberts leaves Titans

Aquis Gold Coast Titans centre James Roberts this evening advised the Titans he wishes to pursue his NRL career elsewhere after rejecting an upgraded offer to remain at the club.

James’ decision comes after the club earlier this evening submitted a revised and increased offer to retain his services for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. That offer has now been formally rejected.

The circumstances leading to this outcome are regrettable but James is very grateful for the opportunity the club has provided him during his time at the Titans, and the club wishes him well for the future.

Aquis Titans head coach Neil Henry said he was obviously disappointed Roberts has decided to move on as he felt he was settled on the Gold Coast where he has played his best and most consistent football in 2015, and the club had worked hard with him to help take his career to a new level.

“It is obviously disappointing we are in this situation as we viewed James as part of the future of this club,” Henry said.

“I’m sure he will concede that his improved form in 2015 is a testament to his hard work and the interest several people have taken in his welfare on and off the field which has enabled him to play his best football.

“I can only wish him continued success wherever he decides to play.”

The Titans will now continue with their recruitment drive to further strengthen the squad for the 2016 season and beyond.
