Four Warriors to return home

Rugby League Players’ Association (RLPA) Chief Executive Officer, Clint Newton, has released the following statement after confirmation that four Warriors players will return to New Zealand later this month.

David Fusitu’a, Ken Maumalo, Agnatius Paasi and King Vuniyayawa will depart Australia on July 27.

The RLPA has been involved in these discussions with the Warriors, the NRL and the players’ agent Stan Martin before an outcome was reached today.

“The Warriors management has shown a level of compassion for the players in working through this, and we appreciate their understanding of the unique set of circumstances each player is faced with,” Newton said.

“These players and their families have made tremendous sacrifices since March when the challenges first began, which should be recognised as they return home to New Zealand at the end of the month.

“I would also like to recognise the remaining Warriors squad and staff for their ongoing commitment and effort in these uncertain times.

“This situation was always going to present significant challenges, and the Warriors players have continued to adapt and play a vital role in the resumption of the NRL competition.

“The NRL and the Warriors club have been great in ensuring that these players continue to receive the best available support during their stay in Australia.

“We cannot lose sight of the sacrifices that all players and club staff have made since the beginning of March – the Warriors in particular.

“We would not be where we are today if it were not for the strength and resilience shown by the playing group.”

The RLPA would like to recognise and thank Stan Martin for his representation and ongoing support of the players.
