Foundation benefits from Titan’s fundraising

The Aquis Gold Coast Titans have handed over a cheque for $5000 to the Preston Campbell Foundation from funds raised through an online auction of jerseys worn by the entire team, and boots worn by the seven Indigenous players, during the NRL’s Indigenous Round.

Another $5000 will be presented to Deadly Choices on the club’s NAIDOC Day on 6 July.

Cbus Super Stadium, the venue first Indigenous All Stars clash in 2010 inspired by Campbell, was the perfect setting for Titans CEO Graham Annesley to present Campbell with the cheque.

The money will go towards education, training and mentoring programs conducted by Preston’s foundation.

The foundation was established in 2015 and is the genesis of the endeavour and passion of former Titan, premiership winner and Dally M Medal recipient Preston Campbell.

The foundation supports Preston’s vision of developing programs and opportunities which inspire and mentor all participants to achieve their aspirations and dreams. He shares his journey with individuals, families and communities through a variety of learning forums to inspire all of us to “stay Above the line”.

“I feel privileged to receive this support from the Titans and the money will go to very good use,” said Campbell.

“It was a great night here and made me feel very proud to see the team play so well, get behind what the round meant and to see the Titans boys wear the hand-painted boots.”

Preston was also presented with an Indigenous jersey, designed by Christine Slabb, signed by the whole squad.

The highest bid was for halfback Ash Taylor’s boots and jersey, which fetched over $2000.

After the cheque presentation today, members of the Titans and Preston Campbell Foundation came together for lunch to celebrate National Celebration Week.

National Celebration Week, from May 27 and June 3, celebrates and builds on the respectful relationships shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians.

The dates commemorate two significant reconciliation milestones – the anniversaries of the successful 1967 Referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.

The theme this year is Our History, Our Story, Our Future. Further information can be found at the NRW week website here: http://www.reconciliation.org.au/nrw/what-is-nrw/
