Jim Phelan is a Senior Financial executive with significant experience of more than 20 years in both the private and public sectors. In September 2008, Jim joined NSW Health Infrastructure (HI), a relatively new NSW government agency with a substantial capital works budget responsible for about 40 hospital related projects, where he is currently the Director Finance. In this position, Jim is leading the establishment of HI’s financial and accounting capability and providing high level advice on complex financial and accounting arrangements with leading providers of construction and professional services.
Previously Jim was in the private sector and had Senior Financial roles with some of Australia’s largest engineering, construction, services and mining companies. Jim was Regional Finance Director of Hyder Consulting (UK listed Company) from 2004 – 2008. Before that, Jim’s roles included working with Simon Engineering, GEO Group Australia, ADI Limited and Renison Goldfields/Consolidated Goldfields Group.
Jim played senior Rugby League in Queensland between 1970 and 1979, initially for Allora – Clifton (Wattles), Toowoomba and Queensland Country before enjoying three seasons at the Brisbane Tigers and four more at the Gold Coast Tigers.
Jim has both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business, Accounting, as well as a Post-Graduate degree in Advanced Accounting and he also holds Diplomas from the Company Directors Course and in Applied Corporate Governance. He is a Fellow CPA of the Australian Society of Accountants, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Member, Chartered Secretaries Australia. He is married with two daughters and one son.
