Dr. Hugh Hazard is a Medical Practitioner and Sports Physician, who joined the Board of the RLPA in September 2009.
Hugh is very well-known in the world of sport, particularly in Rugby League, having been the Chief Medical Officer for the NRL and, prior to that, for Super League. In addition, he has over the years assumed the role of Team Physician for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, NSW Residents, Country Origin, NSW State of Origin, ARL Prime Minister’s XIII, Australian Kangaroos, Sydney Olympic and West Sydney Razorbacks teams and been a regular presence at tournaments such as the Rugby League World 9s and World 7s and the Pacific Nations Cup.
He has also held several senior administrative and clinical positions, including Secretary, Treasurer and President of the NSW Rugby League Medical Officers Association and he was a member of the NSW Department of Sports, Recreation and Racing’s School Sport Committee and a member of a number of Academic Review Committees.
Hugh is currently a member of the Australian Sports Drug Medical Advisory Committee (ASDMAC) and the Rugby League Research Board and is a consultant to both the SMA Children in Sports Committee and the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.
In addition to the university degrees to which he has been admitted , Hugh is a Fellow of the Australian College of Sports Physicians, a Fellow of Sports Medicine Australia and a Member of the American College of Sports Medicine. He has also authored several policy documents and safety guidelines for sports and the NRL Medical Officers Handbook.
